Q: 2008 YZ125 OEM Crank Seal Part #?
1 year 7 months ago
O.E.M. Part # for a 2008 yz125 right side crank seal? Oil from clutch is getting into my crank and piston. Smoking really bad and fouling plugs. No doubt, its a crank seal.

Q: Do crank seals play role in compression at all.?
1 year 11 months ago

A: No not compression but A small "air leak" at a crank seal will cause the usually perfect fuel/air mixture in the crankcase to become slightly lean...sometimes very lean. This lean mixture can quickly result in a seized piston. To check for air leaks you will need to do a pressure (or leakdown) test. A compression test and a pressure (or leakdown) test are not at all the same thing.

A: Not in actual compression, only in transfer of air fuel mixer, bad seal can have a lean mixture of escaping gases on left seal and bad right seal will allow motor oil to be sucked in on primary side, your bike will smoke excessively if primary seal is bad.

Q: 2001 YZ250?
My Clymers says I DON'T have to split my case to replace the crank seals in this bike. It refers to a process whereby you pluck the old seal out with a pair of sheet metal screws and pliers and replace the new seal at the same depth as the old seal.....does this sound right?

A: I would contact your local service department to ask them this technical question. That process sounds a little different from how you would typically remove crank seals.
Wildmongoose
Over 6 months ago Location: Honolulu, HI, USA
A: Yes its true you don't have to split your cases, drilling a small hole in seal and using a screw to pry out will work, you can also use a hook like screw driver but be careful not to scar your crank surface.
