Works well

I used this to replace the oil soaked packing in my 06 KX. It was simple to do once I figured out the directions were not completely accurate for my silencer. I believe the instructions were written for an FMF silencer (which makes sense since it's an FMF product).

Great Packing

Super easy to work with, holds a lot of oil, noticeable difference in performance and sound. Highly recommended fluff, won't use any other exhaust brand.

Not enough

The packing is good and the price is OK just that it's not enough for a good pack job .

Cant beat it

Needed packing for my kx250, and this stuff worked great. You wouldn't think it'd increase the power that much, but it does. Installed easy, and cheap enough. Very happy with this purchase

Works just as it should.

I use this when repacking my Turbine Core II silencer. It lasts as long as any brand of this type packing material that I have tried, perhaps longer. The amount they give you is just the right amount to get the job done. When fresh, the sound is reduced significantly and with a good tone. In order to get maximum life from this product, it's important that your jetting is correct for where you ride. The price is good too, although you can spend more for a fancier product if it makes you feel better. But in reality, you won't get any better performance than the FMF 2 stroke packing provides.

Very pleased with how easy it was to do for my first time ever. I re-packed my FMF powercore 2 and it took about ten minutes, great product.

Fmf packing

I use fmf packing as my replacement packing in all dirt scooter exhausr. No matter the brand, stock or aftermarket this is the best packing for a long lasting exhaust.

Pleasant mistake

This was supposed to be for a YZ450 Titanium re-pack. Since I have Hacker pals in Wisconsin playing games, I enjoyed their attempts to change my order at Motorsport to my advantage--thanks Jerks. Ha--I added a removable spark arrestor to my Titanium muffler, so it can be removed for race tracks--the older packing was in dire need of replacing and was hardened--I didn't like the leaks around the joint ties, and I didn't like the elongated affects of unnecessary back pressure. I did like the narrower tube as opposed to FMF shorter but stockier muffler. So I completely drilled out rivets, to get to the inner pipe, cleaned it all up, and rolled in this new packing which fit my YZ450 muffler perfectly. I then re-sealed mounting surfaces, tapped new holes, filled them and cut off about 2" of the stock muffler for less back pressure--added the spark arrestor and it came out great--far better tone, less back pressure for built head at higher compression piston. Super nice product--easy to work with, and if you take your time, it's well worth the effort as opposed to a $400.00 re-silencer. I get lower decibles, cooler outer muffler temperatures and a deeper growl with less back pressure working on my valves, guides and seals. I'd buy it again.

Quiet and Powerful

I hadn't realized how loud my exhaust had gotten until I repacked it. FMF 2-Stroke Silencer Packing is awesome, it is inexpensive, easy to use, and quiets the exhaust w/o sapping power.

A: Yes, the 4 stroke packing is fine for use in a 2 stroke silencer, but not the other way around. Only use 4 stroke packing in a 4 stroke silencer.

A: Absolutely! You will likely have quite a bit left over. And depending on the exact size of your silencer, and how you cut it, there may be enough to repack it again when the time comes. Lucky you.

A: Yes, this would perfectly with your Shorty Silencer. You will likely have extra packing since this would also work for the standard length FMF Powercore as well.

A: No. There is not silicone included with the packing. You should be able to use any High-Temp Silicone that you would find at your local hardware or auto-supply store.

Q: How to repack FMF Silencer?
2 years 9 months ago
MotoSportExpert
MotoSport Staff
2 years 9 months ago Location: Portland, OR, USA
A: First the outer can must be removed to gain access to the inner core. Typically this is done by either removing the screws or drilling the rivets(whichever your particular exhaust has) on the inlet side of the silencer. Once those are removed, you will be able to remove the outer portion or can of the silencer. You will need to remove all packing that still resides in the can and from around the core. The silencer packing comes in a large sheet and will need to be cut to length for the length of the core. After cutting the packing, you simply roll the packing up around the core snugly and reassemble the silencer. If you do a silencer repack search on youtube, there are a few that you can watch that will also help show you how to do it.

I recently took my fmf apart and noticed that my packing was just soaked in oil, is that a good sign or a bad sign? and is there supposed to be any oil in that at all? and also is that a sign that its time to repack?? HELP PLEASE!

Over 6 years ago Location: Portland, OR
A: Oil in the exhaust packing is normal for a 2stroke. Leaving the oil soaked packing in the exhaust is not good. That's a good sign you'll need to repack and another indication is noticing the exhaust is getting louder.

A: Read this in a dirt bike magazine: oil soaked packing can be a sign of a couple of things good or bad - rich mixture, low RPM riding and/or blown piston rings. Oil is bound to happen but how often and how much is the question. Oil Soaked packing = repacking time. Mine dripped oil just sitting on a stand cold - it was that bad.
